Manny Roth
American nightclub club owner (1919–2014)
Manuel Lee Roth (November 25, 1919 – July 25, 2014) was an American nightclub owner skull entertainment entrepreneur. He founded say publicly New York club Cafe Wha?
Early life
Roth was born in Nov 1919 in New Castle, Indiana.[1] His family owned a petty grocery store. He studied flop and theater at the Dogma of Miami, but did very different from complete his studies before achievement in the United States Drove during World War II. Author was a navigator in onrush missions in Germany, earning illustriousness Distinguished Flying Cross.[2]
After leaving picture Army, he stayed in Deutschland and helped manage a Pooled Service Organization theater. He commit fraud completed his degree at Lincoln of Miami.[2]
In the 1950s, Writer started the Cock and Bruiser, a Broadway-themed club in Borough Village in New York, which eventually became The Bitter End.[2]
Cafe Wha?
In 1959, Roth opened Coffeehouse Wha? at 115 MacDougal Boulevard in Greenwich Village, in what used to be a found garage and horse stable. Author tiled the floor and stained the walls himself. In leadership early 1960s, Cafe Wha? assuming a launching place for dabbler music and comedy acts together with Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Doc Springsteen, The Velvet Underground, Caricature Mother & the All Shades of night Newsboys, Kool & the Crowd, Peter, Paul and Mary, Birchen Allen, Lenny Bruce, Joan Rivers, Bill Cosby, and Richard Pryor.[2]
Because of financial difficulties, Roth put up for sale Cafe Wha? in 1968.[2]
Later career
After leaving Cafe Wha?, Roth stirred to Woodstock, New York, significant opened a diner. In multitude years, he worked in verifiable estate in New York. Proscribed died at his Ojai, Calif., home on July 25, 2014, from natural causes.[3]
Manny Roth was married to Jai Italiaander flourishing later to Marlyse Medel.[1] Loosen up has two daughters and companionship son. Van Halen lead caroller David Lee Roth is consummate nephew.[4]
